YaYa DeCosta Teases ANTM Conversation

Last week while receiving the first ever Essence Luminary Award at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood celebration, Tyra Banks addressed the complicated legacy of her reality competition show America's Next Top Model.

ANTM cycle three contestant YaYa Decosta is ready to talk about her negative experience....

After Tyra's comments circulated online YaYa shared a video on Instagram saying it was time to talk it.

I watched all of those seasons. I remember Shandi went through it when she cheated on her boyfriend. It was a Keekee to me. I worked in the fashion industry most of my career. Ppl are mean, shady, liars, cutthroat, cynical, and will back stab you. You have to have a thick skin to work in that industry.

Most of what happened on ANTM could not be justified. Time for Tyra to own it.

I love Ms YaYa on “The Lincoln Lawyer”

I was on Chicago Med with Yaya
She's not tall enough to be a model
She's a decent actress.

She is taller than Eva

99% of the women on ANTM could never make it as a model. Tyra was playing really sick fantasy games with them. I worked on Madison Ave. at the time and hired dozens of models a week. Tyra's girls were too short, too black-bodied, just wrong for the business. Like Yaya they could have acted, but not jobs where they posed. Nothing wrong or racist about it. Models are real specific types.

^ Well damn, w/that attitude & logic black folks would still be in the fields picking cotton. 😠 There are all types of models, not just runway types. And yes, that is racist because all women aren't stick thin European types.

the show was really cruel at times. I'll never forget when they cut Stacy-Ann's hair

Tyra was telling these women they were readying for runway. That was not happening at the time. There are all types of models now, not then.

We wouldn't know YaYa, Eva, and any of the other young Black women on the show if it wasn't for Tyra Banks' vision. #sheopeneddoors #BeThankful #LifeGoesOn

Black women are literally the model for the entire human race.
