Drake Settles with iHeartMedia

Last year, in a pre-action petition to his defamation of character lawsuit against Universal Music Group for distributing Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss track, "Not Like Us," Drake accused iHeartMedia of accepting payola to boost NLU radio airplay [click here if you missed that]."

Drake and iHeartMedia have reached a settlement...

Drake has reached a settlement with Texas-based iHeartMedia in his ongoing legal dispute over Kendrick Lamar's diss track "Not Like Us," according to court records.
In November, Drake filed a legal petition in Bexar County, Texas, where San Antonio is located, alleging that iHeartMedia had received illegal payments from Universal Music Group to boost radio airplay for "Not Like Us." UMG is the parent record label for both Drake and Lamar.
The petition, a precursor to a potential lawsuit, had sought depositions from corporate representatives of both companies.
In a court document filed Thursday, attorneys for Drake said the rapper and iHeartMedia had "reached an amicable resolution of the dispute" but did not offer any other information.
"We are pleased that the parties were able to reach a settlement satisfactory to both sides, and have no further comment on this matter," Drake's legal team said in a statement.

How come he hasn't sued K.Dot for calling him a pedal file?

11:31 that part. This is a practice that has gone on since forever. Managers/ musicians/labels sliding money to the club owner, party promoter or the radio station dj to put the artist and their music out there is not unheard of. Drake was mute when he benefited from it, but now it’s an issue because of the song? Ha!

Unless Drake say something publicly about this I don't count it as a win

Universal will be settling in 5, 4, 3, 2...As for KDot, I think Drake's attorney is allowing KDot to first earn millions like Marvin Gaye's estate did with Robin Thicke, and then they will go in and sue. Why sue before the money is made? He's letting K work and make the money before he sues him for it.

If Kdot cannot prove Drake harmed a minor, then he's going to be flat broke after the lawsuit. I immediately knew what Drake's team was up to when he didn't stop K from performing but slower folks thought it was because the allegations were true. No, Drake's doesn't care what you think, he cares about riding it out and getting that money. I'm not a fan of Drake fan at all, but Drake's is playing chess. K knows Drake brought him into the industry and treated him very good and now Drake's going to break the bank for him doing that after he helped him. I saw about 5 clips of Kdot saying how good Drake was to him and how him put him on when he wasn't well known. This is why Drake is moving this way. I think after Drake wins against the labels, K is next.

You all don't get it, IHeart settling means exactly what it looks like, Drake won. Now Universal will have no choice but to settle because Universal was the one interacting with IHeart. So Drake just killed 2 birds with 1 stone. Once he beats Universal, there is a very high likelihood that KDot is next. Drake may settle on a public apology.

A win is a win. Drake won. The lawsuit seems to have gone over people’s heads. This determination to continue dragging Drake into oblivion is dumb. Of all the things to stand ten toes down on something so trivial in comparison to what’s going on in your daily lives is a little embarrassing.

What y'all who think Drake is the Winner don't understand is that Drake DID NOT Win anything because he still has to rely on these formats to support his music.
So, the case may've been settles but there's no clear winner because I Heart Media will still continue to play music from other acts, they may not for Drake though since he's lost a significant amount of fans due to Not Like Us being a superhit for Kendrick.
From here on out he's gonna have a more difficult time getting his music supported by music formats because of this lawsuit.
As artists close in on their 40's they lose support with music formats that are looking for the hottest youngest fresh new talents' music to play.
Thus, I Heart Media could be paying Drake to make him go away before they focus on other artists' music to promote.
So, Enjoy Drake while you can Folks because his lawsuits could eventually result in his being Blacklisted!

A settlement does not mean guilt, which is why people settle. It can not be a cause for action in court.

I mean I don't even understand how this practice is illegal. The radio promotes what they are told to promote, there isn't any popular opinion when it comes to what plays in the radio. Hence why when I used to listen to the radio it was always the same songs on rotation.

This is not a win. If Drake had proof he would be shouting from the mountain tops.Drake agreed to drop it and then allowed him to call it a settlement. Do you really want to piss a company as large as this off when you're going to need them later?? NOPE! The best way to handle this would've been to keep quiet and whether the storm. He took it to the gutter when he spoke of the man's wife and kids. The Drake rumors have been in this industry for a long time. Him, his crew, and his father all have allegations. He won't sue KDot because he would open a can of worms. I'm a program director and I played the song because it was/is hot. Him being so mad about it makes it more appealing to listeners. He's not a hard core rapper. He makes us wave our hands in the air. Stick to that! Mary J doesn't sing opera. Drake you can't compete with hard core rappers. He's commercial. But if you make IHeart and enemy, it will be tough without airplay. You make UMI an enemy, what labels will really deal? He needs to tread lightly and let it go.
