Despite the fact that there are many Black firefighters, there is a lot of racism in the career field (as in others). It's good that he was publicly recognized but most Black inventors go unnoticed or underappreciated.
The sarcasm in me says: "To thank him for his contributions to firefighting, Black folks were hosed down during the Civil Rights Movement." That's how my oppressed Black mind works. Sorry.
We are amazing ppl. I saw that young picture of him and thought that was Jackie Jacson from Jackson 5. All these smart Blackmen and women. What happened to us. Did drugs keep us from developing our inheritance? Easy fast money with no substance is a dream killer.
I believe that younger version of him is an actor/model for enactment purposes. Otherwise his 'fro would probably look more like Don King's & Frederick Douglass'. I wish more Black people would have said no to alcohol & drugs, but there are such persons as functional junkies.
