Fun Facts: The Civil Rights Act prohibiting discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin wasn't signed until 1964. One week after King's assisnation on April 4th, the Civil Rights Act of 1968 was signed prohibting discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing.

Nice post Snitch. Usually I’d drive up to DC for the weekend, take my kiddos all over the capitol, and wrap our day up by visiting MLK’s monument, but you couldn’t pay me to be there this weekend.
I'm going to watch the local parade, then turn my tv off till 2029.
Fun Fact: Chicago was the 1ST City to Honor MLK Day as a holiday!
I'm gonna go to my old stomping grounds and see how I can serve the community where I was blessed to have grown up in.
Then, I'm gonna watch the MLK speeches given by the youth in the community center later today.
Then, watch some of MLK's speeches and interviews throughout the rest of the day before I turn off my tv only monitoring the weather reports section of the news programs until 2029 too!

Actually, Ronald Reagan signed this holiday for Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. after it was hard fought for in congress, with a handful of congressmen, Jesse Helms being one of them AGAINST the naming of a holiday for the Nobel Peace Prize winning anti-violence minister of Peace Martin Luther King Jr.
They were out voted and on January 20th, 1986 Dr. King has been celebrated every third Monday in January.
Thus, I don't need to do my research, given I LIVED THROUGH THIS and My Family ASSISTED with the Process.
