Ice T Sparks Debate About Felons

Last year Donald Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records to cover up hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels [click here if you missed that].

In light of Trump's second inauguration, West Coast rapper Ice T poses a question...

Speaking of Ice T... y'all watch. All these YT women gettin' ready to drop brothers like hot potatoes. We'll also see less of the swirls in the media. Don't come at me with the Vice President. Him and his grinning wife do not count.

Things getting ready to change for the swirls. They thought things were rough, well they ain't seen nothin.'

Wow, Mr, Ice T, that's a question that probably should've been presented BEFORE the Presidential Election LAST Year!

I'm with Ice-T. If a felon can hold the highest office in the land, then employers nationwide shouldn't be able to ask that question or consider it during the hiring process.

NEWS FLASH: People been saying this

A private or publicly traded company reserves the right to hire whomever it chooses. The United States government is not a private or publicly traded company. Simple.

WTF?!?
The U.S. Government Should Be THE EXAMPLE of what's to be accepted & Tolerated!
What TF are you talking about????!???!?

This is so aggravating it’s like we try to act like we don’t know the answers to questions that we already know if I own a business I can make whatever hiring standards I want to make. I can say that if I am hiring someone I need you to disclose if you are a felon or not that doesn’t mean I’m not going to hire you, but I need to be aware of your situation even though I am running a background check this question is posed to see how honest you are going to be about your background let’s start there. Then during my application or candidate selection. I am reviewing all candidates, depending on what your felony may be I may or may not hire you because I become liable for whatever you do on my job at my business. I don’t like how we as a community don’t seem to understand Simple things. The government has their own hiring standards just like anybody else and for the record many places higher felons they’re not saying that they don’t they’re just asking are you a felon or not really is to see if you’re going to be honest because they’re gonna run a background check😂

I agree it shouldn't be on the application. It's nobody's business and if you get to the interview only then *might it should* be discussed if it shows up on the background check. If the felony wasn't for a violent crime it may not be important to the job at hand. If for theft, then it might need to be discussed. If it was years ago, it should not necessarily be an issue. We deal with affiliate hires so I have some insight on this. And people can and do change for the better!

It's on the application at some places for legal reasons.
If a company hires someone w/o checking their background and that someone commits a crime against another co-worker that co-worker who had been victimized could sue the company for not ensuring they were providing a safe environment when they hired a person with a criminal history.
Companies don't want to leave themselves libel for lawsuits and some people just want to ask the question to give the ex-con/ convicted felon a way to explain what the crime was before they process the application.
So, Yes, it is a company's "business' if you have a criminal record and you applied for a job with them.

I can see both sides of it.

I think depending on the situation, the question could be optional along with a mandatory background check disclaimer statement that lets the applicant know their criminal record won't automatically disqualify them. Then they can determine if that job is even worth applying for.

FYI 8:10p, the word is LIABLE, not LIBEL, which means something totally different, but I see your point.

Applying and getting the job are 2 diff things. Many people apply for a single job. The applicant on the other hand could potentially sue if some messy worker tells others they have a felony. Not many things are confidential nowadays so the applicant has a right to privacy. He/She could also potentially sue if they disclose their felony and don't get hired, if they believe they've been discriminated against. This issue should be discussed privately.

The applicant with the criminal history forfeits their right to privacy when they apply for a company that request of one's criminal history on the application.

Y'all act like it's the potential employers' fault that the ex-con or person with the criminal history has the criminal history instead of the potential applicant's fault
