What folks may not realize is that he started out being a model (Remember: JJ's Love Will Never Do Without You" visual?) & then received roles for pennies before receiving scale amount for decades.
Hollywood celebs & especially those who aren't from America has to pay taxes in both their homelands as well as in the U.S. & if they don't make enough from their participation in films or tv roles plus having to pay their managers/agents/p.r. reps they're gonna run out of $$$ before they really get in the game good.
Plus, he got a fabulosity Baby Mama too, who prolly hittin up his pockets for child support? Maaaaaaan, he don't have what he should by now in the game b/c once he gets it it's gone.
I first saw him in a film called "Unlawful Entry" in a non-speaking role, but he was easily identifiable to me in it as a suspect handcuffed & seated on a bench with the film's star Kurt Russell.
