This week Canadian rapper Drake initiated legal action against his record label, Universal Music Group, accusing them of artificially inflating the popularity of Kendrick Lamar's Drake diss track, "Not Like Us [click here if you missed that].
UMG fires back...
From Variety
In a response several hours after the news broke, a UMG rep told Variety: “The suggestion that UMG would do anything to undermine any of its artists is offensive and untrue. We employ the highest ethical practices in our marketing and promotional campaigns. No amount of contrived and absurd legal arguments in this pre-action submission can mask the fact that fans choose the music they want to hear.“

MUSTARD ON THE BEAT HOE!!!
@9:03 HO HO HO
At the end of the day if they are on the same label then they took favour over KL to even let him release the song. Since day one the whole thing smelled of sabotage to get Drake out of favour. The beef is some made up BS. I never been a fan of either. They both make poppy rap music and use dark imagery in their videos. This is a win for the label.
Sometimes you gotta pop out and show n…as…😊
That last sentence was shaaaaaade LOL. This man really called the police because he lost a fight. SMH.
The fans chose. Periodt.
Kendrick has NEVER made "poppy rap" WTH?
Kendrick talks about real life and is a story teller. I listen to some rap, but I've never been tempted to buy a whole Drake album, in part cuz he bit Craig David's whole steez. Meanwhile, I I've literally purchased all of Kendrick's catalog. He's talked about witnessing violence while growing up, he's discussed substance use, he's addressed his flaws and talked about therapy. KDot is a real person and the buyers chose him with our dollars and streams, because we got sick of plants like Drake glorifying being goofy azz fuccbois.
Say Drake, I hear you like 'em young.....you better not ever go to cell block one
