Spice Girl Mel B and dancer Jimmy Gulzar's daughter, Phoenix Brown, conducts an experiment to see if she can break into the art industry with her name alone...
If Warhol's Campbell Soup series is worth over 11 million dollars, then why can't Phoenix sell a chili pepper painting for $2k. Nepo babies can use their visibility to market their talents and I find nothing wrong with that. Fame or nepotism, it's the same amount of sensationalism and maybe even more now with social media.
She is already in the industry she was born into now I guess these kids want to try and price that they don’t have favor in the industry when we all know they do!!!
She didn't deny knowing she's a nepo baby and actually admits there's privilege of being one. This experiment was to highlight that. She also talked to a real struggling artist and that woman got zero callbacks while she got three. Personally, I appreciate her honesty and transparency. At least she's not acting clueless about it.
THIS really messes up the whole industry and culture of the art world...I'm a professional visual artist (painter) and art teacher for non profits in predominantly black/brown communities. We lend our gifts to a demographic that helps neighborhoods, help children that isn't into sports or science....and my fellow artist friends and I talk about stuff like this all the time and absolutely hate this....All this time going to school, taking classes, workshops, practicing, perfecting our craft, residencies, teaching internships, living this studio/gallery life, working on projects to invest in our projects,etc.,etc.,etc....and we get only ¼ of the way with what we have....and it looks WAYYYY better than this...but God Bless her heart, there will be someone somewhere that's gonna buy her suck @ṣ̌š art because of THIS....

My apologies to post this twice...I'm passionate y'all....There's nothing wrong with wanting to be an artist, even with disposable income coming from a wealthy family but to really play in the faces of people who really put in the work, time, blood, sweat, tears, soul, money and ṣ̌ĥịț into what we put out to share with the world...and you have is 'I just wanna do it..."....grind my gears...
NEITHER OF THIS GIRL'S PARENTS ARE RICH. PEOPLE SHOULDN'T JUDGE PHOENIX SIMPLY BASED ON WHO HER MAMA IS. FOLKS ACT LIKE SIMPLY BECAUSE HER MOM IS FAMOUS SHE HAS IT MADE, BUT SHE DOESN'T. GIVE HER A CHANCE TO MAKE HER OWN MARK ON THE ART WORLD.
