The new judge, Paige Whitaker, has denied Thug's request to be released on bond...
Atlanta rapper Young Thug will remain behind bars after a newly appointed judge denied a motion to reconsider his bond in a major motion hearing Tuesday morning. The ruling came down as the RICO trial against Young Thug and the alleged YSL street gang resumed after a lengthy disruption that resulted in the recusal of the original judge overseeing proceedings.
Judge Paige Whitaker denied bond for Young Thug, whose legal name is Jeffery Williams, based on the ruling previously set by Judge Ural Glanville.
“I am not going to reconsider any bond issues that have already been ruled on absent legitimate changed circumstances," Whitaker told Young Thug's attorney, Brian Steel.
Steel argued that Williams had been jailed in the Cobb County Jail for over two years without a conviction, sitting through a lengthy jury selection and several pauses in the trial -- all of which were outside of his control.
"This is excess," Steel said.
However, Judge Whitaker ruled that not enough had changed to constitute a bond.
"Those are not the kinds of changed circumstances that speak to the Ayala factors, so I'm not going to reconsider the bond," Whitaker said
