Bigi Jackson asked a judge to deny his grandmother Katherine's demand she be paid $500k from the late pop star's estate.
As we first reported, Katherine and the executors, John Branca and John McClain, have been fighting for over a year over the decision to sell one-half of Jackson's music catalog to Sony.
The executors asked the court to approve the deal in 2022. Katherine ran to court demanding the judge not sign off on the deal. She argued her late son would not have wanted the catalog sold off.
Branca and McClain claimed Katherine had previously objected to deals that turned out to be lucrative. They argued the deal proposed would be extremely beneficial to Jackson's children Prince, Paris and Bigi.
The parties faced off during a hearing where Katherine testified. Paris and Bigi supported their grandmother while Prince said he was on board with the deal.
Despite her objections, the judge sided with the executors and approved the deal. Katherine filed an appeal that argued the executors had no authority to sell off the asset. The executors scoffed at the suggestion they had no right to sell the catalog.
As part of the appeal, Katherine won a couple of small wins. The case is still pending.
In a recent motion, Katherine asked that the estate pay her $561,548 to reimburse certain legal fees associated with the appeal.
The executors asked that Katherine's petition be denied.
Now, in a newly filed response, Bigi said he opposed Katherine's request for $500k despite supporting her during the court hearing over the catalog sale.
His lawyer admitted Bigi opposed the deal. However, he said, “[Bigi] did not appeal the Court’s ruling. It was apparent that the Court was acting within its discretionary powers to grant the Petition for Instructions. The chances of a reversal on appeal were quite slim and [Bigi] did not wish to incur further expense in pursuing an appeal.”
“Despite the expense and long odds, Katherine decided to pursue an appeal,” the lawyer added.
“[Bigi] prays that this Court deny Katherine’s fees and costs incurred to appeal,” the motion added. “It would be unfair to make those beneficiaries shoulder this burden when they expressly decided an appeal would not be in their best interests.”
Bigi said Katherine should be paid her legal fees before the appeal but not for work done on the appeal — which he doesn't agree with.

Micheal did NOT want to financially support his brothers and sisters and their children and grandchildren anymore in life or death. He obviously was very bitter towards them in how he left his Will and all 3 of his kids said Micheal told them before he died specifically NOT to give money to his family. He stopped messing with all his family except his mom, Janet even said that on her documentary. He was distant towards all of them.🚯 Those 3 white kids just moving the way Mike instructed them to. They are not going to be rode like a rusty bike. They aren’t flashy, the 2 boys seem focused and stable, Paris looks like she finally getting it together. This resentment and struggle over money is exactly what MJ wanted and what he created while he was alive. It's just being played out (with executors) in ways he never imagined. I guess the joke is on him.
He held the strings but Katherine was the one who dished out the money to the family. He took care of everyone in the family just enough so they wouldn't step out of line. Vanessa Bryant could learn a thing or two from MJ.

@230. You're right about Katherine and Katherine is right about MJ. He would NEVER, EVER sell his catalog. He was the one who bought other people's catalogs. He bought part of the Beatles' catalog right under the nose of his used-to-be friend Paul McCartney. Katherine is right and she is no one's fool, but I think she might loose this battle.
Someone is buying up errbody works, not just Black people's. Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Stevie Nicks, Shakira, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen have all sold all or parts of their catalogs, but MJ would never do it. He knew his music was more valuable than being used to sell a can of soup.

When Blanket was younger he looked like he could have been Micheal’s. Now he is looking like he’s white and possibly Latino, but really he just also looks like brunette white man. I got 4 at my job look just like this. They all know they aren’t biologically his which is why they said Paris went off the rails. What I do know is Michael DID NOT WANT to sell the music publishing catalog! That’s generational wealth. I’m sure them legal fees are way too much, considering all they do is file a simple request. You don’t have to have to be a lawyer to file the paperwork. Lawyers are snakes like that, they get paid no matter who wins in court.

My thing is Katherine is 93 and depending on how much she is in the way...she can get it. At her age its hard to see she is all the way on top of this stuff. She has been supporting her 6 or 7 brokest kids anyway. So if something does happen to her would her portion go back to the kids? If MJ provided for his mother and she gets 160 a month Blanket must get at least 200 so how come he cant hold out for a better day.

@4:56 You are right, Mike didn’t want to sell but he had sold part of his catalog that he owned of other artists not his, while he still alive to pay off his debts. When he died he was like Elvis deeply in debt, and the estate did like Pricilla and turned that around. I don’t think it’s necessary for them to sell the catalog but times are different now and they probably want to cash out while he is still remembered. Nice it wouldn't matter what color the kids are. Micheal didn't want to support his family any more. He had it with them, point , blank, period. His mom has received over 55 million dollars she can pay the bill on a lawsuit she started, she's not broke. Mike put a cut off on it and he meant it
