Coretta got that packet from J. Edgar Hoover with pictures of Martin in the act with dozens of women and she stood steady. She knew that blowing up her marriage was not what the Civil Rights Movement and Martin needed so she stayed strong. She was a heroine and a martyr.
Good God. I didn't watch the interview and didn't know he compared Megyn to Coretta after being caught comparing Grace Jabbari to Corretta. I knew about him calling Grace out, but didn't anyone tell him not to say that again? Who are his advisors and is he listening to them?

He tried to uplift a known party girl out of the gutter to match his status and got burned. Aren't we suppose to uplift our partners? Meagan was a preacher's wife and is already there. This has nothing to do with money and everything to do with class. He meant no disrespect to Mrs. King. It was a compliment. People can't see that because of the messenger.

What Berniece is saying is that Majors (and y'all snitchers) don't understand who Coretta was. She wasn't some woman without her own opinions and agenda.
Meagan is not a prop. She's had her own career since she was a child. That's the kind of woman Jonathan wanted out of his significant other and learned the hard way that these types of women are born, not made.
@7:22 she was a preacher’s wife that didn’t know what came along with that role. She was not a Coretta either. She’s not already there the entire time she was married to that preacher, she wanted to be scantly clad and take on rolls that would not present her in a preacher wife fashion. We cannot sit here and try to have it both ways. We all know why Maegan and her preacher husband are not together anymore, and it was simply because she could not handle the role. No one implied she was a prop, he implied he wanted a woman like her by his side. Who takes a compliment as an insult? Bernice knows good and well her mom was a 1950s wife, married to a preacher, who ran the house. That was a different era where husband's ruled the roost. It was a traditional 1950s Black family
She was not out ahead of her husband, she was by his side, but also left alone frequently with the kids while he traveled for the movement and to preach. She held down the fort and did her part behind the scenes. So she "sacrificed" a lot while he was alive, but became more vocal after his death. She was a major part of his success but didn't come out as her own voice until after his passing. She accepted the role of wife, mother, and helpmate, then "after" his death she did her own thing. So Bernice is forgetting Jonathan said he wanted a partner like her, as in when she was a man's wife. That's the highest compliment because while she was Dr. King's wife , she was also a loving stay at home mother. I thought it was an awesome compliment.
Or Jonathan probably meant he wants someone with her same grace, class, poise, humilty, wisdom, humanity, dedication, love, and high intelligence. Either way, it was a darn compliment. However, she was "not" out ahead of her husband, but chose to be a dutiful wife, and later she had to go it alone after his death. Had he still been alive, I think she'd still remain his helpmate because she was a spiritual woman who loved her family. All of them still lived with her well into adulthood! Only 1 had kids, and he was like 50 something when he did. So they loved their mom.
There is no problem. The general public nowadays is so used to debauchery that they cannot understand the compliment when they hear it. Now if he had said she should be more like Nicki Minaj or Cardi B some would have jumped on him for that, too.
He probably meant it as a compliment but he posed it to YT first, then he used it on a sister again, but after the fact. That might be why it was taken as an insult.
@ 2: 34, True, but whether the woman is white or Black, he still wanted someone like Mrs. King. He would still feel the same way if his girl was Asian, Arab, or Mexican. I don't think Jonathan viewed women in terms of race "until" he got arrested. That's the danger with young Black men today, they think society had evolved when it hasn't. He didn't think a girl he let live in his multi million dollar home for free would ruin his life, he thought he knew her. That's where the cultural differences came into play. You don't let everything lay up in your house while you work.So he learned the hard way. It's like that young Black boy who went to Italy with his white friends and they let him get kicked to death. Tell your kids they are still Black and to be careful because they will be treated differently in situations. He lost everything behind a party girl. He needs to understand that you can't turn a woman with no morals into a moral being, you have to find her that way. So his fault is being physically attracted to lucy goosy while wanting Mrs. King on his arm. Can't have it both ways. Do you want Mrs. King or Ms. Streets?
