Lyrics? She should already have an agreement in place for those lyrics as a writer at the time. Idk how that translates to whoever was in charge of allowing said song with said lyrics to be used in the musical version but ma'am I think you need to take a seat. What is it about Oprah & The Color Purple that has everyone in an uproar and in their feelings??

@ 11:13 I was thinking the same thing. If it were really your song then you would think they would've came to her before using in the movie. Didnt Fantasia play Celie in the Broadway play too? And hell Whoopie was the original Celie before the musical and she didnt sing.

Pay her. Stay away from her DM.

PS. What happened to Shaun King?

Nah, unless she wrote lyrics, she has no royalties bc they’re not using her past performances for the movie. The show Wicked is becoming a movie and unless Idina Menzal, the original main character with the best Wicked voice ever, is getting some kinda theatre royalties, it’s a no

If she didn't get a writing credit and points on pub and masters she played herself.

She sounds bitter she wasn't asked to be involved in the latest movie version and using this moment to weaponize being passed over. Royalties for a soundtrack should be somewhere in a contract and if it's not, then you're out of luck. No one should be desperate enough to be included in something where they aren't asking to speak to an attorney to review a contract.

Sounds like you need to take a note from TP Henson and fire your entire staff if you got left out of some song credits girl.

She does not sound bitter, she sounds like a businesswoman. Lyrics get rewritten through workshops and if she can prove her additions weren't compensated, she has a payday coming. You people think you know more than you do.

Was her rendetition of the song used in the film?
Did she write, and compose the song?

I hope that her bases are covered by having something in writing. Hollywierd is known for its fuzzy math when it comes to paying royalties.

Look at how the industry treated Nadine Scott McKinnor. You may not recognize her name, but you've definitely heard a very popular song that this Black woman wrote and was never adequately compensated for, and probably never will be.

Broadway workshops have had their own special contracts ever since the ideas and some of the lyrics of A Chorus Line were created by the cast who didn't get credit.

@1:33 PM What's the name of that famous song?

She's reaching and good luck.

Ma'am, Did you get a contract indicating you would get royalties for such contributions? Or were you under the standard Broadway contract that stated any and all impromptu performance contributions belong to and are forever owned by the production company? Bloop.

The Color Purple was workshopped so all creative contributions must be noted and compensated.
Bloop yourself.

Y’all need to stop the “you people” language. Either it’s WE or US, but the “you people” just make you sound like the idiot I know are.

Yeah, @1:19 pm. I’m talking to your educated foolish azz, bih. I see you.

@2:58 PM, The writer fell on hard times and people are trying to help her. Please read about it here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/nadine-scott-mckinnor-has-suffered-a-stroke

I saw her on Broadway when the musical first premiered. She won the Tony award for her performance. Fantasia replaced her after she did the role for two years.
