This week actress Taraji P. Henson broke down in tears and admitted she was considering quitting her job, over the pay gap for Black actresses [click here if you missed that].
Apparently Oprah has stepped in and made things right...
Yeah, right…what’s really going on? Lowkey, is she feeling some type of way because Fantasia seems to be at the forefront? That may be excessive; yet, it’s something going on with Taraji that is deeper than pay discrepancies…pray that she can find healing and resolution…,but i I’m not buying these “tears”….
I'm still waiting to hear how Oprah made it right. Did everybody get a check or just Taraji? I ain't mad at her though. Closed mouths don't get fed and those tears obviously worked in her favor. If Monique had taken a softer approach instead of acting like a raging bulldog perhaps she too could've gotten somewhere.
Oprah professes to be a little Black girl from Mississippi, but never once has she invited little Black American girls into her home. She brings multiple girls from Africa to her home to stay throughout the year, and calls them her daughters, but she, Gayle, and Ava said for BLACK AMERICAN GIRLS to stop calling them mom and auntie. Oprah said outright Black Americans can't call her that but Africans can. Go look it up!She has zero connection with Black American women unless its to use them for a Legends Ball because her ratings were low, or to use them for her movies because Black Americans sell films. Seeing that she never invites American Black girls into her home, but she spoils the African girls, is wierd. It's a form of self hate. All of her films are about Black Americans, especially Black women, but she has no genuine connection or love. Taraji is coming from a real place but I bet Oprah gave her a call because of the timing.
There is no Black and Brown or Women of Color coalition. Women of other groups do not bond with Black women, but they will use Black women to accomplish their goals and support their causes, then discard Black women and dismiss their interests. One of the best things that Black women can do is support each other, because each other is basically all they have.
I remember vividly when Oprah, Gayle, and Ava felt compelled to make a public statement asking young Black Americans not to call them Momma or Aunty. It's bogus on their parts because any young Black person who loves or respects me enough to say mom or aunty, I am here for it! I love it and I welcome it because they could be saying ish instead. Lol.
Oprah lied and said she understands when Africans say mom and aunty because it's cultural, but she has forgotten that where she is from we all say momma, aunty, and cuz. If your own can't call you affectionately then stop using us for profit.
If we not related don't call me Auntie or Cuz. It's offensive because you don't know me and I don't know you. Don't assume I'm okay with being referred to that way if you haven't asked me if it's okay.
6:14, I wasn't talking about you. I am referencing the culture Oprah and I are from. You aren't from our birthplace and therefore you don't understand our culture. I can tell by your sour demeanor that few probably even call you friend, let alone sis, mom, cuz,or aunty, and therefore you are safe. Lol.
My point is that Oprah comes directly from a culture where we say the exact same things they say in Africa but yet she's not offended by them, just our young Black people. Catch up, it wasn't about you, it's about being genuine. She said for years she hates the words ish, garden tool, and ninja, but when she's met with love she rejects it from her own. Can't be pleased. Never reject love from the youth.
If any Black adult is offended by a term of endearment, then the problem isn't the young person. You can call my Sis, Momma, Auntie, and Cousin , but don't call me a witch with a B. I will never be so stuck up that I reject someone who may not have anyone to call Momma, Auntie, Sis, or Cuz. If they see something so good in me that they feel a connection, then God bless them because I'm doing something right. Yes honor me with those sacred words but don't curse me.
One of the reasons I like Jonathan Majors is that after Angela Bassett loss the Oscar to the nepo child, Jonathan gave her shout out when he presented an award by saying “Hey Auntie, we love you.” It was right on time.
6:28 PM. You sound stupid AF and can You can kiss my entire black azz because you don't know where TF I'm from or what I understand. If I don't know you, DON'T CALL ME AUNTIE. I said what TF I said and you will deal because if I said to you, hey bish! would that be cool? No it wouldn't because you don't know me. Now get TF on and don't tell me what's ok and not ok for someone to refer to ME as.
Black people ple can be so ignorant sometimes. I have never heard of anyone trying to force someone else to accept being called something they don't want to be called. 🤦🏾♀️
@6:37 Depending on where they're from young people also use Nigga as a term of endearment, as in that's my Ngga or I love that Nigga. Doesn't mean someone should call you that just because they don't have a problem with it.
Mary J. Blige’s younger fans were calling her Auntie. Lol! She nipped that in the bud quickly saying she doesn’t like it and doesn’t accept it. Hilarious!
^^^^^ Michael, Johnathan & Angela are colleagues/friends so calling her aunty isn't disrespectful bcuz she's like family. But young people also use it to describe single black women over 40 without kids (Oprah, Vivica, MJB, etc) so it's like saying you can be my aunty since you're old and lonely and don't have nobody. And that's why it can come off as offensive to some women.
Bottom line. Oprah must have paid Taraji another check and now she is praising oprah. We all knew who she was talking about. How you just make a movie, didn't get paid enough and we don't think this was Oprahs doing come on. Iprah didn't pay her enough. It botherered her so much she let it out. Now Oprah gave her another check to shut her up
6:09, 6:28 sorry but it’s clear here… even the posts here show you blk culture here in America is not like African culture. We do not use auntie & uncle the same in America as it’s done in some African cultures, so don’t compare. The closest we’ll use here is “cousin” but Oprah knows blk youngins in America are just different from those over there. I vaguely remembering her saying that the kids here don’t want her for education, they just want her for gifts gameboys and phones in America. So yeah, she moved her focus to Africa.
10: 47, Now I know your a lying foreigner because she admitted she was shocked when the girls at her school ran out getting weaves to their behinds and yapping on cell phones all day after she blessed them, so stop your lies. There were even pregnancies and everything. She discovered kids are the same around the world. She thought they would "worship" her but they acted just like everyone else. She even lost her court case in Africa. Also, you obviously aren't from our culture because we DO use that vernacular. Speak on your people, not mine. Quite a few of you are not from the deep Black South and have zero knowledge about our culture and traditions and so stay in your lane, haters. You just don't like the truth.
I'm a mom. I don't mind being called mama. Lol Sapnish ppl say Mami all the time even to children. Asian culture say Auntie to show respesect. You can Say miss etc if ppl get offended and you still want to show respect. Didn't know that bout Oprah.
Oprah stepped in huh? Well that tells us all we need to know. With Whoopie's feet planted squarely on her neck now she wants to help somebody. Taraji take the help how you can get it

3:53…super reasonable and you have a point. But Mo, still was not wrong though
Oprah is LIVID that her press run is being hijacked by Taraji. A film about women empowerment is being lead by women that are NOT feeling empowered.
"Raging bulldog" HaHaaaaa!

It depends on who says it and how they say it.

Did all the crazies come out today? Don't call me Auntie. It is not part of my black culture.
