Interesting....isnt Oprah producing the Color Purple? Is Taraji not happy with her salary for THAT project? I dont have time to watch the whole thing right now cuz I am at work.
Black folks need to understand this industry wasn't built for US and WE need to quit trying to make fetch happen or force them to change and give us our props. And it's unfortunate the few of us who make it far enough to create change eventually sell out (Bob Johnson -- BET) or we struggle to even capture and keep a strong market (TV One, UPN). I don't know what the solution is but personally I would make that money then move on. THEY don't GAF about what we create and what we're worth if we're not making them money. So treat it like a good job where you make good money, invest and cash out. Screw Hollyweird.
I wonder if she actually lives in LA. Thats her first problem. From what i hear Mike Epps has a sardine can studio apartment in LA but a mansion in Indiana where he lives during his downtime. Gotta think smarter these days.
Because equality for women and Blacks has been trash; is she upset at that… or because the roles have dried up for her??? Monique, Viola Davis, Wanda Sykes have for a fact spoke out. Yet, when Monique was ranting folks threw her under the bus, rolled over her, didn’t say squat…said she was a troublemaker, etc…no one spoke up…she can keep her tears…
Anyone who makes a million dollars a year can afford to retire and I'm pretty sure Taraji makes at least that much. Change your priorities and it may change your life.
Cry me a river. I'm sorry I can't relate to a millionaire crying about the unfairness of life because it's not exclusive to her. We all as women, and people of color have to endure this sad state of affairs and most of us are doing it while bringing home less than $100K a year. Retire?? Who?? Where?? Why?? To have even less. That's not our reality Sis, but I wish you well and pray it gets better for all of us.
People retire from one career and move on to another every day. With some companies an employee can be fully vested after 5 years, they just can't draw any money without penalty until they reach a certain age or other criteria.
^Not only what she is worth, but what other non-Black actresses are being paid with her credentials. That's what this is about and she's right. Monique was right, too. Ion't care if she does have a big mouth.
Octavia, Gabrielle, Viola have complained about this for years. The only way it will change is for them to speak out. Good luck to them.
I agree there shouldn't be a pay gap at all but the fact is there's a hierarchy when it comes to Hollywood paychecks and Black women are tied with Asian women for second to last (Black men always come in last). But Taraji has C-list acting skills at best and appeals to a limited urban market so I don't know if she really warrants a super high salary. Not specific to pay issue but Regina Hall is a much better actor with greater depth IMO.
Taraji is showing a pattern of choosing wrong, 50 been told her leave them chicken dinners over on Empire. If these people would live within their means they would surely make it.
Taraji mentions having a team. I think that drains a lot of the money too.. I wonder who is on the team and are they needed? Also Gab Union mentioned supporting family. I know that's not the issue. But certainly can't help if roles are scarce.

Pay gap for many women all over the world. This is very unfortunate as women shoulder a lot of responsibility.
