Lenny didn’t say it was false in his statement to the press after the article came out. Lenny said he was talking about the award shows, not the media. That was Lenny’s way around that accusation.
All of y’all need to sit down and stop demanding Black validation. You won’t let Black journalists interview you so that Black people can learn more about you and your music, but you want us to welcome you into the fold.
Living colour is so dope and so right here! Bet has only wanted its own “ mainstream” audience so it’s all just fact. There have always been Blk folks entertained by the Blk alternatives so bet should consider evolving.
Why do we get pigeon-holed then pigeon-hole ourselves? Living Colour are an incredible band with a fire discography. We are 360 degrees. There is nothing black people don’t know and can’t do. It’s the constant propaganda that debases and shuns those that do not fit the stereotypical narrative, and we buy into it. Self-hate, ignorance and exclusion has been used as a strategy to keep us divided and consuming.
Rock & Roll/Rock music is Black music. Just like Country music. Blacks started it and it will always be. Mainstream culture doesn’t want Blacks to be in those genres because White acts wanted them. But, we never left them, we’re still in them. They also wanted Blues, Jazz, Pop, R&B to Hip Hop and all other Genres we’ve created in between. Blacks are now having Latino, Asian and Africans wanting to “take over” our genres in music. But, we always remain true to what we’ve created and have seen, time and time again, duplicated. Maybe to others it’s an honor, maybe.
Just because your Black does not mean you should automatically be acknowledged to our community. Our award shows used to be celebrated with R&B. Now it's tragically Rap music. He is donig okay by the Rock&Roll ppl that like his music.

What kind of fools do you think we are?
