Not a single eighth grader at LeBron James’s "I Promise School" in Akron, Ohio has passed state math tests in three years, according to data presented at a local school board meeting.
The school, which instructs low-achieving students in grades two through eight, previously received $1.4 million from The LeBron James Foundation, its parent organization.
Despite abundant resources, the school has not been able to meet state benchmarks.
Board President Dr. Derrick Hall said the results do not match the amount of resources the school has at its disposal.
“I believe the pandemic has an impact, but it also has an impact on the non-selected kids as well and the numbers that we’re seeing here would suggest that my non-selected kids who don’t have the same number of resources are actually performing better and I’m just trying to understand why. I think it’s fair to ask that question,” he said.
Hall continued, noting the results did not live up to expectations for the school.

The school is for low achievers, so...
They producing athletes not Rhodes scholars.
These kids entered the school so far behind they’re never going to catch up. Plus they looking for sports scholarships and don’t think they need academics.
This is bad. How do you create a school where the students are failing. $1.4mil and the kids are still dumb? How? Kanye's school is a failure, this is a failure, I wonder how things are going at the Oprah school? Are these people trying to educate kids or groom them?
How embarrassing. Maybe LeBron and them need to focus less on peddling liquor and sports and more on education.
Can Lebron even do math?
LeBron writes checks, that pay his accountants, he's ok. Rather than knock him, try applauding his efforts. Do y'all know how hard it is to take children from disadvantaged backgrounds and try to bring them up to speed in school? Only some salty uneducated nobody would knock this man's efforts to do good in his community.
^ Shut yo face. Who applauds failure when a super millionaire opens a school? He could hire the best of everything. You're the one who sounds uneducated.
11:04, I'm very educated. I'll make this quick because I know you've got to get off break and back on your cash register soon. First, LeBron hires other people to handle the day to day affairs of the school. He's not the principal, so stop blaming him individually, he's just the face (not operations). Second, there's also a learning curve. They may not have anticipated some of the extra support that the families need. Third, I've worked in schools with disadvantaged children and no, they aren't typically bringing home high grades.
Sad but they are under achievers who would be failing anyway …just with the special ed and negative behavior labels attached to them in public schools.
Ahhhh , soooo blame Lebron James , blame the teachers , blame the school administration . blame the school but no mention of who is really to blame .................... hmmm , wonder why.
The I Promise School in 2018, a public school for third through eighth graders with an extensive support program funded by The LeBron James Family Foundation.
So , quit blaming Lebron for the failures , he lent his fame and support to get resources to the school , that is it. It is a public school ..... with resources now , so , if the school has the resources and the kids are still failing................
LEARNING starts at home and reinforced at home. Put the blame where it should be , needs to be.
'I’m just trying to understand why.' -Board President Dr. Derrick Hall. Seems like it's Time for a Change of The Guard.
Who are these "educators" educating these children?
None... not one...
