Actor and R&B singer Marques Houston made headlines in 2020 when at age 38 he was engaged to a 19-year-old, and publicly defended online criticism of their age gap.
She’s now 22, while he’s 41, and they welcomed their first child in 2021.
Houston now tells Page Six that women his own age came with too much “baggage.”
“A red flag to me [was] always with a woman that had a kid,” he said. “Nothing against single women, but single mothers with children are a red flag for me.”
“I tip my hat and respect women that are raising children on their own,” he told us. “But when I grew up, I never really wanted to have kids.”
He elaborated, “I would talk to my dad a lot, and he would always tell me to have your own kids because you never know what the baby daddy‘s are about. So if you’re gonna have kids, make sure it is with a woman that never had kids. So that was always my red flag… and a woman with an attitude. I don’t like women with funky attitudes.”
“I’m 41, she is 22. I could’ve married a 44-year-old woman, and it could’ve been disastrous,” the singer said.
“Women that are my age… they kind of have a different outlook on life. Like a lot of women my age are very independent. They are very like, ‘I don’t need a man to do this for me ’cause I can do it for myself.’ I come from a generation that I love to provide for my wife.”
He added of finding the right woman, “There’s a lot of women my age I’ve dated, they may have baggage. They may have kids, they may not. There’s so many different women I’ve been with throughout my life, and it just so happens to be that this one [Miya] caught my heart. Everything that I prayed for — and everything that I wanted in a woman — she came with. Although she was young, I’m young in spirit.”

Ok, he's an idiot, too... Black women can't win. First, we're too independent, now, we're not dependent enough? Give me a fcking break! I know plenty of women between 32-40, who would love a man like Marques, and they don't have kids, and they would love to be pampered and provided for. But black men counsel black boys to stay away from black women; or, they'll describe attributes that are primarily ascribed to black women, by saying "stay away from single mothers", "stay away from women who are too independent", "stay away from women who wear fake hair"; black men are the greatest barriers for black relationships because they are themselves are chocolate covered yt men who hate black women. Marques knows dayum well he could've found those same attributes in a woman 30 years old, but he purposely chose a barely legal teen because he knew it would be easier to manipulate a young girl with zero life experiences, as opposed to a woman who had fully lived her life and could add on to his. Black men like him are intimidated by black women who are smart, successful, and accomplished - not because "they don't need a man", but because they are harder to manipulate.

I suspect he wants a “daddy-baby girl” relationship. If thats what he likes then it’s cool with me. But he needs to find a woman who understands this and is open to it. His wife may be open to that but he doesn’t sound like the kind of guy who knows who how to start or have the that conversation. Good luck to both of them.
And there are plenty of women his age who are looking for the kind of relationship he wants. I think his problem with women his age (40 ish) is his way of trying to justify wanting to have a woman half his age. He should get into therapy and work this out.

Orrr he just wants someone young so he can manipulate her…especially with his wife being a runaway teen and all. She came from nothing so he will use his status and money to keep her in line.
