Media mogul and philanthropist Tyler Perry is stepping up again to help senior citizens in Atlanta.
The City of Atlanta announced a $750,000 donation from Perry to assist low-income seniors with their property tax payments through the Invest Atlanta Partnership nonprofit.
The donation will go toward paying off the back city and county taxes and school taxes for every low-income senior. The city says at least 300 seniors meet that criteria currently. Part of the funds will also freeze property taxes for 100 low-income seniors.
Perry told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that he will also donate an additional $500,000 in each of the next four years.

great move. I hope he allows them to transfer it out
Existing homeowners should be grandfathered in! Residents should fire their city council
That's why you never truly own your home. Don't pay the taxes and they can take it paid off or not.
Mortgages and taxes are not the same.
Buy with cash or pay off a mortgage and get the deed. That's how a person truly becomes a home owner.
Paid off or not, you still pay taxes.
Either way it beats renting at these ridiculous rates.
TP does the right thing, except for stop writing his shows.

Mortgages and taxes aren't same, is true. Mortgage payments don't change unless the owner refinances or something. Property taxes can increase when the value of the property around your home increases even when the value of your home hasn't increased by way of let's say renovations.
That was nice of him
Some 40 plus years ago, Proposition 13 in California kept property taxes at a steady low rate for old-timers who had not moved as their rate don't go up with the escalating value of their home.
