The Michael Jackson estate is in the process of selling half of its interests in the legendary singer’s music catalog in a deal in the $800 million-$900 million range, three sources confirm to Variety. While details are unclear, sources say that Sony and a possible financial partner are negotiating to acquire 50% of the estate’s interests in Jackson’s publishing, recorded-music revenues, the “MJ: The Musical” Broadway show and the upcoming biopic “Michael,” and possibly more assets.
The package would be the biggest deal to date in the still-booming music catalog market.
A financial source tells Variety that Primary Wave Music already owns a stake in Jackson’s publishing catalog, although details are unclear.

I thought this been happened. A while back when he first passed there was a article saying good estate was broke and that they needed to sell hood catalog and it was reported they sold it to Sony let’s me go find the story now

@8:01. You're right. It's very dumb. MJ was buying other artists catalogs and pulled a fast one on the Beatles by getting part of their catalog. And MJ started flooding commercials with the Beatles music to lessen their power. It didn't work, but Paul McCartney damn near lost his mind. MJ was a savvy, even ruthless, business man.
Soon we'll start hearing MJ's music in commercials and movies. Yep, they're fools to sell it.
His family need to money to stay afloat. They are desperate and don't want to work. I think Marlon was a security guard at one time.

Hoping that this is just a rumor and Michael's estate retains control of his catalog.
