From ABC 7
Jazz and soul musician Gordy Harmon, a founding member of the R&B group The Whispers, died Thursday in his sleep at his Los Angeles home, his family tells Eyewitness News.
Harmon was 79.
The Whispers were formed in the Los Angeles area in the early 1960s, but hit the peak of their fame in the 1980s with hits "And the Beat Goes On" and "Rock Steady," both hitting No. 1 on the R&B charts.
Harmon left the group after an injury to his larynx in 1973, group members recalled in a 2017 interview with the Los Angeles Sentinel about the founding of the band.

Rest in Peace.
There was also another death recently of a founding member... Can't remember the name of the group.

RIP to Mr. Gordy Harmon.
Well my days of paying top dollars for old school concerts are done! Paying ' pit seats, meet and greets' finished, I don't see the sense of paying big ticket prices for imposters playing the music chords of something, that has already been done. May this man rest in peace🙏. Thank you for sharing with the world, your amazing voice.
ROCK STEADY!!!!!
I don't blame Cher for having her last fling in her last years in life. Folks are passing every day. Live yea life everybody. As long as you're not hurting nobody. Do you.
R.I.P. Unc!
I guess the original group didn’t have the twins and the 4 members I’m used to from the 80s?
Rest In Power
