R&B singer El DeBarge arrested on drug charges after officers notice his expired tags at a gas station in Burbank, CA...
From TMZ
Burbank PD tells TMZ ... officers slapped the handcuffs on El around 3:40 AM Sunday. They didn't pull him over, he was already stopped at a gas station when they noticed he had expired tags -- but when they approached, they say an expandable metal baton in plain sight in El's vehicle.
The baton is an illegal weapon, and that prompted cops to further search the vehicle ... which is when they allegedly found found pepper spray and suspected narcotics.
They also found out DeBarge didn't have a valid driver's license.
The singer was arrested and booked on several charges ... including possession of a leaded cane or baton, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Law enforcement tells us they believe the narcotic is heroin.

Whole lotta fine wasted.
The tragedy of the Debarge family continues. I was hoping El had broke free of his demons. Bad enough his brother Chico's son was murdered a while ago and no suspect ever charged.
WOW....prayers up for El....iDK maybe there's still hope that he will get clean & get the help he needs....This man is so fkn talented & it hurts to see him like this...🙏🏾
He aging like yt
This ni66a. He is too old to be goin thru this. Some mufukas just never learn. He needs to go and do whatever it is retirees do and quit hittin the streets.
Wasted talent.
I have seen miracles happen with drug addiction. Some ppl recover, some recover too late.
So talented. So sad
We love you El Debarge, keep fighting. You are still here for a reason. Remember, God loves you too. It's not too late.
A baton? Chile
Alexa, play 'Self Destruction.'
Poor El. That Yt blood is the devil.
@10:39 he has a full-white father. Biracials can age quickly whether they have a white father or mother. He's over 60 or very close to it. And he's been on hard drugs and had a multitude of issues for over 25 years now.
I betta get my lead baton outta my car I have it in there for my exes baby mommas. I did not know it was illegal.
The 70s-80s were rough on the Debarges. Drugs, addictions, abuse and fame hit them all hard. Trying to get off the hard stuff is like pulling yourself up by your bootstraps in 6ft of mud, while battling a hurricane; it takes a lot of faith, endurance, and discipline to overcome those demons. I hope he's able to find peace and sobriety.
@10:37 Yep! Praying 4 Unc to break those chains. Touch&Agree.
El has been given so much support and many opportunities. He's just a junkie. Sad
Better a baton than a loaded firearm.
I see the don't attack other commenters rule is not being enforced.
Their music was supposed to be therapeutic but they needed actual help in healing that family ever got. I’m not judging because I didn’t grow up like they did. A passive black mother. An aggressive, abusive white father. Growing up in an era where you’re not accepted by either side. All interracial couples can’t be like Tia and Tamera’s parents.
Whenever I see this man, "All This Love" starts playing in head..."Say, say you love me. Oh, I love you!" and I melt like I'm 12 years old again.
* never got *
