Earlier this month retired NBA player Dwyane Wade's ex-wife, Siohvaughn Funches-Wade, filed a motion to legally prevent their child from changing their name and gender on their birth certificate before they turn 18 [click here if you missed that].

According to court documents obtained by RadarOnline.com, Dwyane did not hold back in his response to Siohvaugh demanding the court shut down the court petition over Zaya.
As we previously reported, last year, Dwyane asked the court to sign off on Zion Malachi Airamis Wade becoming Zaya Malachi Airamis Wade.
In court documents, Dwyane said he had the “full authority” to “make decisions on behalf of” Zaya. The NBA legend was awarded full custody of his 2 children in 2011.
In Dwyane’s new filing, he said that the 2011 agreement is crystal clear. Further, he said Siohvaughn has not provided any substantive argument or evidence as to why the petition is not in Zaya’s best interest.
He said she relied on “unsubstantiated and nonsensical allegations about Dwayne.” Further, he said while his ex submitted a portion of the 2011 court order, he claimed she failed to include pages that provided a detailed account of “Siohvaughn’s years-long campaign against Dwyane and her efforts to prevent Dwyane from having any relationship with his children.” He said the court found her actions were not in the best interests of the children and granted sole custody to him.
The ruling is pending.

His entire personality is "I have a transgender daughter" so of course he wants his kid to make these changes at a young age.

What I can seem to understand is why he is going into overdrive to get this child's name changed right now. What's the rush? This problem could be easily solved by allowing him to change his name when he turns 18.

After what I assume is intense therapy, psychiatrists agree with Zaya that she was born misidentified as a boy. Really doesn’t matter what her body looks like; her brain and every instinct tells her she’s a girl. That’s the way she was wired at birth: boy’s body, girl everything else. She’s not confused about this but the longer you force her to identify as the boy body, the more pain and damage you are causing.

I wish the world would stop trying to erase the definition, meaning and science behind who are Natural born females. Change his name, but it should be illegal to change your gender unless they’re going to categorize it as transgender.

If this was my child I would say wait until your of age.Child have been given authorization to make decisions they shouldn't be.This name change has.more to do with them not her.
This is so stupid, the child is 15, he'll be 18 soon and can do whatever he wants, hell he can get emancipated in a year. This is a false emergency. There are many things that feel urgent to you as a teenager that a few years into adulthood you realize wasn't as devastating as you felt at that time. People forget that teenagers are loud and wrong all the damn time.
