Last week self-proclaimed vocal bible Brandy Norwood canceled a concert just hours before showtime claiming she had unexpectedly been put on vocal rest by her doctors.
That's not what I heard...
From The Daily Mail
R&B star Brandy Norwood abruptly canceled her anticipated live orchestra concerts because she wasn't allowed to lip sync, inside sources have exclusively told DailyMail.com.
Just a few hours before she was set to appear, Brandy called off her performance on Friday, January 25 and then her second show on Saturday, January 26, at Washington, D.C.'s storied Kennedy Center.
The 39-year-old singer took to Instagram to apologize to her fans and attempted to explain her late notice cancellation by saying she had a host of illnesses and it would go against her doctor's orders if she carried on with the shows.
But event organizer insiders have told DailyMail.com the real reason behind the cancellation was that Brandy was uncomfortable singing live and wanted to lip sync some of her set.
The source said: 'Brandy didn't want to sing live, bottom line. She wanted to pre-record vocals and lip sync [instead of] singing at this venue with the orchestra. Everyone around her told her there was no way she could do that.
'She became unhinged and ultimately pulled the plug on the entire weekend.'
'Despite having done Broadway and having been a recording artist since she was a pre-teen, Brandy apparently voice tracks her concerts - meaning 95 percent of what she performs on stage is pre-recorded vocals that she lip-syncs to.
'We were told it was a combination of stage fright and her being a perfectionist. Whatever her phobias, you just don't lip sync in front of an orchestra and she wanted to,' explained the insider. The day of the concert Brandy posted this long drawn out reason for why she canceled.
