Sony Records drops R. Kelly amid backlash from the Lifetime 'Surviving R. Kelly' documentary...
From Billboard
Sony and R. Kelly have agreed to part ways, sources tell Billboard. The news comes on the heels of the Lifetime documentary Surviving R. Kelly, which detailed allegations of sexual misconduct against the singer.
Reps for Sony and R. Kelly could not be immediately reached. Kelly has also now been removed from the RCA website.
Kelly had been signed to Jive since the beginning of his career in the early 1990s, and when Jive became part of Sony BMG, he became part of the Sony umbrella. He has been under contract at RCA, a Sony subsidiary, since 2012.

Finish him!
*high five*
He hasn't had a hit in over a decade so this was more of a business decision and it gave them good PR. IF they would have done this back in 2002 then I would believe the execs had some morals but this is all for the media.
Okay but why drop him now though the information that's been out has been out for years my question is why wasn't he drop years ago...
Sony doesn't need the bad press and he's not making any money for them anyway. Drop the dead weight liability. One of them anyway, Sony has more.
Why didn't they drop Michael?
Because if R Kelly is sued they could come for Sony as well.
So. How much was he rewarded for agreeing to part ways quietly
@3:32 Because unlike R Kelly, Michael wasnt guilty of anything.
I’m sure there was a clause in contract regarding conduct. If so, he may have walked away with little to nothing hopefully.

Kelly wasn-t found guilty either.
Who needs a record label when you have YOUTUBE.
Again fake news and fake ass outrage. Why didn't anyone drop him when he pissed on a baby and then turned around a married another? Fuck outta here..over this mess.
@7:18 Duh I know he wasn't "found" guilty but he IS guilty hun. Previous comment still stands.
The fact that all this was common street information years ago and no one did anything speaks volumes. It was about money for Sony and nothing else. They dropped him because they knew that keeping him on would tarnish their rep and cost them lots of money. Thats all this was a money decision.
