A Detroit Police sergeant and a photographer sued entertainer Trey Songz on Monday in federal court, accusing the rapper of assault, hurling racist insults and making an obscene gesture during his booking photo.
The lawsuit by Sgt. Robert Avery and photographer Andrew Potter was filed 17 months after the entertainer, real name Tremaine Neverson, 33, was accused of assault and causing property damage during a December 2016 concert at Joe Louis Arena.
was accused of throwing a microphone stand that hit Potter in the head and punching Avery in the face during a backstage confrontation. Neverson appeared intoxicated and shouted expletives at officers backstage, according to the lawsuit.
“---- you cracker white mother -------!” Neverson said, according to the court filing. "Don’t touch me you white mother -----! ---- all you honkeys and ---- the police!”
Avery and Potter sued for assault and battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress. They want more than $75,000 in damages.
