Petition Urges Barack Obama to Pardon Kwame Kilpatrick

Supporters of the former Mayor of Detroit, Kwame Kilpatrick, launch a Change.org petition to urge President Obama to pardon Kilpatrick who is currently serving a 28 year sentence for racketeering...

President Barack Obama made history this year as the President who gave the most pardons while in office, commuting the sentences of 348 inmates, more than the last 7 presidents combined.

Now The People for the Release of Kwame Kilpatrick hope the President will extend his mercy to the former mayor.

The petition, with more than 13k signatures, reads in part,
As a native Detroiter, I am well aware of the things that Mr. Kwame Kilpatrick has done wrong. I believe he should pay for his wrong doings but 28 years in prison is just too excessive....

Fun Fact: While President Obama was running for office Mayor Kilpatrick campaigned heavily for Hilary Clinton, even inviting Obama's former Chicago pastor and outspoken nemesis Jeremiah Wright to Detroit for a speaking engagement at the height of the campaign.
