According to Linda Adams, who said she was there from the beginning, Ward appeared extremely agitated. She said he was using profane language and creating such a prolonged disturbance, someone at the funeral felt it was necessary to call 911. Adams said she is not the one who called police.
When police arrived, Ward hid in the women's bathroom, according to the Adams.
She said officers told everyone to get out of the church, and the suspect was alone in the building for the majority of the standoff.
Police originally received information about Ward being armed, but Adams said she never saw him with a gun.
After unsuccessfully trying to convince him to come out, police used tear gas to try and subdue him.
Shortly after the gas was used, police were seen escorting Ward out of the church in handcuffs to an ambulance.
Ward is known for making a low budget movie in the neighborhood called 'Snow on the Bluff.'
