T-Boz Explains Left-Eye Verse Removal

Last week late TLC member Lisa 'Left-Eye' Lopes' sister Reigndrop blasted remaining group members T-Boz and Chilli for recording a 20th anniversary version of their hit single Waterfalls with Left-Eye's rap verse removed and a Japanese artist's vocals in her place [click here if you missed that].

T-Boz says there's a perfectly good reason for that...

In a recent interview T-Boz admits the real reason Left-Eye's vocals were taken off the track is because they couldn't secure the rights to them.

T-Boz tells Yahoo Music,
“We don’t own the master recording rights to Lisa’s raps on any of our music, and our requests to gain the rights so far have been denied.”
“With the Japanese anniversary edition, we were forced to use creative ways to honor Lisa’s memory and celebrate this milestone with our fans.”
T-Boz also refutes claims that Lefteye's family was left in the dark about the new recording telling Yahoo,
"Our management spoke to Ron Lopes (Lisa’s brother) prior to the record being released to let him know that Namie would be performing to ‘Lisa’s’ lyrics,”.
“We have and always will protect our sister’s legacy as TLC consists of the three of us collectively. Although we have and will collaborate with other artists, there will never be a replacement for Lisa or any members in TLC.”
