Usher Accused of Stealing Hit Song
Usher Raymond is being sued for $10 million by two song writers who claim Justin Bieber's hit song 'Someone to Love' was written by them...
According to reports Virgina songwriters Devin 'De Rico' Copeland and Mareio Overton filed suit against Usher in U.S. District Court last Thursday.
De Rico and Mareio claim they wrote Someone to Love in 2008 and released it on De Rico's album "My Story II."
According to their lawsuit Usher was exposed to their composition of Someone to Love by a talent scout who set up a meeting with Usher's mom Jonetta Patton, who offered them a chance to go on tour with her son.
Usher even recorded a demo of Someone to Love for his Raymond vs Raymond album, but decided not to use it. The tour deal never materialized.
Fast forward to 2010 when Usher's protege' Justin Bieber released a single called Someone to Love with substantial similarities to De Rico and Mareio's version.
Justin Bieber reached no.15 on the Billboard chart with Someone to Love and Usher recorded a remix.
De Rico and Mareio are seeking $10 million for copyright infringement.Usher, his mother Jonetta Patton and Justin Bieber are all named in the suit.
