Imprisoned reggae star BuJu Banton, currently serving 10 years on drug charges [click here if you missed that], is hoping to be released from prison after proving his Sixth Amendment rights have been violated...
BuJu took it back to civics class, but for those of you who slept through Government, the Sixth Amendment guarantees the right to a speedy trial.
BuJu was arrested and held without bail in December 2009 [click here if you missed that] and his first trial, which ended in a mistrial, didn't take place until the following June. BuJu's second trial didn't take place until four months later, when he was finally granted bail. A small consolation considering he was later convicted after a seven day trial and sentenced to ten years in prison.
