The NBA has fined the New Jersey Nets $50,000 after part-owner Jay-Z briefly visited a college team after a recent win.
The league launched an investigation earlier this month after the 'Empire State of Mind' rapper was captured on camera congratulating the University of Kentucky Wildcats basketball team following a win over the University of North Carolina in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)'s March Madness tournament.
It is expressly forbidden for the owner of a professional team to interact with possible NBA prospects.
A spokesperson for the NBA has now confirmed that a $50,000 fine has been levied against the New Jersey Nets franchise due to Jay-Z's violation of the rule.
Jay-Z shares ownership of the Newark-based professional basketball team with Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov and real estate developer Bruce Ratner.
