It is customary for last year's Oscar winners to present the awards to this year's Oscar winners, so why did Monique skip the show?
You know why. They weren't paying her. Last year Monique famously refused to do any promotional appearances for the film Precious because she wasn't being paid [click here if you missed that]. So no wonder when asked why she skipped presenting the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress this year her husband / manager, Sidney Hicks told USA Today Monique was busy taping episodes of her talk show and that announcing the nominations earlier this year had been her way of participating in the ceremony.
