T-Boz spoke to Black Voices' Jawn Murray about her stint on Celebrity Apprentice and managed to throw a little shade in the interview.
JM: When you hear stories about what's going on with Destiny's Child and Kelly Rowland having to fire Matthew Knowles to finally get attention, what are your thoughts?
T: They get mad when I say this, but I don't give a damn. It was all about Beyonce anyway. She was my favorite, too, but come on. Her parents are over everything. Who do you think they were going for? It's always Beyonce. It was supposed to be exactly the way it is now, Bey is on top. I love Beyonce, and I am a fan of hers. She was my favorite in the group even before they were Destiny's Child and they were the Baby Dolls. She was so cute and pretty. I like all of them, and I wish Kelly the best. When you're in a girl group, you have differences, and you have to learn how to respectfully agree to disagree. There are a lot of things that happen behind the scenes that people don't know about. Some girl groups have girls trying to steal other girls' boyfriends and that's the ultimate no-no. You have situations like the Kelly thing and Beyonce's parents. You can say that I'm out for everybody, but if Lisa was to bring somebody in that's her boyfriend, then I'm gonna feel like you got Lisa's back more than mine, and that's gonna be a no-no. I just think that brings a conflict of interest in the beginning. That would have been a hard group for me to be in, because I would have been like your mommy and daddy are running things and they're gonna have you at heart the most. That's just how I feel.
JM: There are currently no girl groups in the music business. They all seem to break up. Why do you think it's like that?
T: I feel like girls are anal, bitchy and bitter. They're jealous, envious and compete with each other even though they say they don't. It always brings issues. They can't differentiate that this is business, and we don't have to be best friends. We just have to work together. People have a hard time living with that, because it becomes fake and you have to keep up this whole façade, and you just can't deal with it and break
up. At the end of the day, it's about making money and having a career. Nobody said
you have to go home and hug every day. Some girls can't deal with that, and I've always had girl problems. Girls and me just don't mix. They've always been jealous, tried to take my boyfriends and lie on me. I get it because I've always had that happen to me. That's why I would never do a girl group again. I'm happy to have been with the two I was with, but I would never bring another girl in and start a new group. You don't have to worry about that with me.

After reading this interview Kelly needs to stay away from her. A lot of what she said rings true, but there is just a touch of hate directed at all females in there. Just a touch. As a woman, I am always wary of women who don't/won't/can't get along with other women. That tells you THEY are the jealous and competitive ones.

she telling the truth. i have no problem with getting along with females, it's just alot of females have issues you have the bipolar ones that don't realize they bipolar, the insecure ones, the ones that are so wild that they want to have sex with you and the man. this is all i have run across with women. i have one or two women friends that i deal with, but even they a little off at times. This caused me not to trust females, i don't think it's a good thing not trust females but when this all you run across what can you do. I get along better with men.

FINALLY - The Truth.
T-Boz you got it twisted on the Girl group thing. It not just females it males too. Even really good groups like Boy z 2 men didnt last very long. Its all about the ego and money. Both men and women have egos and want money. THe second problem is when you sell an album you have to split the profits 3,4,5 or 6 ways.Sometimes with a motherfu**er that can barely hum. That would make anyone want to go solo.
Loved TLC when they were around. Most people have issues but Kelly was never going to get a spotlight in that group ---ever with daddy at the helm.

Anonymous Boyz II Men is still together they never broke up Michael left due to back issues that's all. Dru Hill is back together, so is Blackstreet, 112 is trying but Michael Keith's ego almost ruined them he was the youngest and least known out of Q, Slim, and Daron and claimed the others stole his money so he left 112 in 2007 which is why they were doing solo projects but they are coming back without Mike they are a trio now, New Edition had ego problems and not just Bobby Brown. Ricky, Ronnie, and Mike had problems being known as the group's backup singers and wasn't on the same page and Ralph, Bobby, and later Johnny. People think Bobby had feuds with Ralph but it was mainly Ricky he didn't get along with because Ricky would snitch on Bobby when he brought girls around that's what he wrote in his book. Then Brooke Payne and their label MCA would punish him by not letting him do any leads and they said stick with Ralph on leads so that's why Bobby acted out and BBD wanted Bobby out the group but Ralph wanted him to stay but they forced Ralph to vote him out. Ralph briefly quit the group in 1987 to go back to Boston and do a solo album like Bobby was doing because he wasn't happy voting Bobby out and he and Bobby hung out but Bobby said he didn't keep in contact with everyone else in the group until 1990 and it seemed they were all best friends again. Bobby was pissed that Mike his best friend who formed New Edition with him in 1978 asked Johnny Gill to join in case Ralph left and made Ralph pissed off too. He didn't know Johnny was in the group until a meeting in Minneapolis with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Ralph was gonna work on a solo album with them and New Edition was gonna work on Heart Break with them but when Ralph came he saw the other members with Johnny and their was a lot of tension and Johnny hated that they gave him the song Boys To Men to sing. Ralph decided not to leave the group and so Johnny became Bobby's replacement instead of Ralph's. Right now it looks like their are still problems because BBD is now recording without the others and Bobby, Ralph, and Johnny formed a new group called Heads Of State. Bobby said that BBD wanted to be in BBD mode instead of focusing on New Edition as a whole so it was a big blow up at a recent meeting in 2008 and Ricky said he doesn't know if the issue will be resolved and Mike said their is nothing but chairs he said Bobby threw a fit and threw papers and chairs when BBD announced they wanted to do BBD instead of New Edition and Ralph said I knew this was gonna happen and Johnny said ain't this some bull and those three said okay we gonna see who can do best without each other and formed Heads Of State because they are the three heads of New Edition meaning lead singers. That's why BBD and Heads Of State aren't speaking to each otehr. Ricky, Mike, and Ronnie are close to each other and Bobby, Ralph, and Johnny are close to each other.
She'd never make it as a solo act, anyway. She can't sing without the assistance of a computer or some other type of voice altering device. TLC wasn't popular because they were good. They were not good at all; at least not as vocalists. They got over because of their youthful and different image, catchy beats, dancing and lyrics, and minimal competition from others of the same musical genre. TLC was basically in the right place with the right people around them at the right time.

Sasha Foolish probably created that alter ego to further distance herself from the group. They needed her more than she needed them. She has no more use for Kelly and Michelle, because she can always get backup singers and dancers; and she is the face of Destiny's Child, not the other two. I wish Letoya or LaTavia would write a book about their experience with the Nutty Knowles.

The reality is that a lot of females are jealous, evious and competitive. The jealousy can appear if you have a better car, job, boyfriend, husband, house or life than your so-called friend. Then you have the frenemies, including those who smile in your face and then try to sleep with your man. I have learned to be selective about who I include in my inner circle of TRUE friends - you know, the ones who have your back through thick and thin.

Say what you will, but T-Boz is preaching the gospel truth. Just think about it, there has never been a girl group that has broken up on good terms, and you'd find out later that money, jealousy, and ego was mainly the reasons for the group breaking up. We can go as far back as the 1960's and the SUPREMES: Flo Ballard had the best voice, but was pushed to the side, even though she had the best voice. Diana was pushed to the front as the lead singer, and Mary and Flo were seen as nothing more than her back up singers.
THE POINTER SISTERS: Even though they are sisters, they beefed with each other, which resulted in Bonnie leaving the group, making them a trio; of course they were sucessful, but had drama later on with Baby Sis, June who they eventually kicked out.
EXPOSE':Gioa lost her voice, plus they didn't make any money together.
Salt N Pepa: Salt called Pepa while she was getting her toes and nails done to tell her she was leaving.
EN VOGUE: Dawn wanted to be solo from the jump, left during their fourth album, plus they are broke to this day.
SWV: Coko was seen as the star, while Taj and Lelee were barely given a verse to sing, plus Lelee claims to have been ripped off to the point that she was once homeless, even though her group was multi-platinum
702: Meelah was getting too much shine, making the other girls feel jealous.
TOTAL: They were signed to Bad Boy Records, enough said.
BROWNSTONE: kicked a member out because they weren't getting along, but lied and said it was for medical reasons. Had one more hit before breaking up.
JADE: Sucess, but no money.
XSCAPE: Latocha wanted to be the star, plus Kandi was sleeping with the boss, giving her and unfair advantage over the other girls, plus money problems.
THE SPICE GIRLS: TOO MANY EGOS!

i love how she was honest in the interview (i read the whole thing) but she was very tactful in how she spoke, even if she was talking bad about someone. she would say how she liked someone, even if they were an asshole. kids new to the media scene could learn a lot from her on how to do effective interviews.

As a TLC fan from day one she's talking about what she knows not what she heard. Her and Chili had a falling out when T was dating Dalvin from Jodeci. Chili slept w/Dalvin b/c she wanted to get back at Dallas for being....well him. Eventually they both got over it and remained friends. Left Eye always been off into her own thing. Left Eye's beefs were mainly about money and control. Her rants just got worse after she started gravitating towards Suge, Pac and Def Row, N.i.n.a. started tripping.

WOW there is allot of bitterness in here today. We have all been hated on lied on and talked about. That is no reason to say all women have issues and don't want to see another woman or anyone for that matter doing well.
I have had females act ugly towards me but I also had females help me climb the career ladder at work and give me good positive advice. What I have noticed is that allot of times we (black women and men) entertain bullshit. When your homegirl comes to you with some gossip what do you say? Your response should be “Oh girl I don’t participate in gossip” (which is an oxymoron given this site).
Also people that you work with are co-workers not friends you should not be inviting these people to your home. Also stop telling people even your closets friends what you have with your man or woman. In these days and times when true love is hard to find giving out your relationship info is not a smart move. You should also have a good mix of friends some white some black some other. Choose friends who are where you want to be in life so they are more than a friend but a mentor as well that contribute to your growth.

only1nikki, you're right about not sharing your business with everyone. i was having probs with my son's father and i went to my girls to vent and now that things are going good and we're talking about marriage, they think he's a scumbag. now that we're growing into having a happy adult relationship, all folks know is that we had issues a year ago. i've learned to keep my mouth shut on our problems and to only say good things about him.
She's on point about being able to separate business from socializing/pleasure, and I feel what she's saying about us women being catty, even though I tend to have more male associates than female, simply because I don't like a lot of small talk and men tend to get right on point without the bush getting in the way, whether they are right or wrong and allow me to express myself without always taking it personal, some females need to thank a sista, I'm the reason some of them probably have said to themselves; I wonder why my man is complaining about this like he used to, not because I *ucked him, but because he's my friend and I let them see it from a neutral point of view. But I do find that usually when a woman thinks she got what every other woman wants, be it material,looks,or a man, she's usually conceited and self centered to an extreme. TLC had no talent. They could not sing like en vogue. their dancing was not anything special...anybody could do those moves. what they had going for them was that they were pretty girls...especially chilli.

Had it not been for the songwriters and producers they could have forgot about it. Lefteye did write some poetry that was included in waterfalls, but that was it.
