Sad but true. They say Dr. Donda West had been warned against having a tummy tuck and breast reduction by one doctor because she had a pre-existing heart aliment, but that she turned around and went to a different doctor who agreed to perform the surgery.

money doesnt solve all problems...i bet Kanye didnt know then or he could have stopped her.
vanity is a muthafucka. kanye knows this more than anybody.
so sad. this could have happened with any other surgery. it's so sad with all images we have portrayed to us that we are not beautiful the way we are. I mean think about it, even the girls in Kanye's videos are supposed to be what we all are supposed to look like. how ironic his mom would die trying to improve herself.
I wish him peace and comfort through this difficult time.
Rough shit right there; she was at an age where she shouldnt give a fuck and just pimp out the way she is cuz her son is a superstar and she got money. She should have been enjoying life the way god made her, some times you're too old for that shit.
I mean come on someone should snatch that god awful wig off of Diddy's mothers head before Ye's mom should have gotten plastic surgery.
it is sad that only thing people could think about is the fact that this woman wanted to change her appearance. This was someones mother and her decision to get plastic surgery was hers. we should be leaving prayerful thoughts and condolences but instead we are knocking his mom for her decisions. GROW UP someone is dead.
RIP Ms. West
Kanye hold your head. Trouble dont last always
i do think its important that people see how risky it is to have this done, unfortunately it took kanye's mother for people to really pay attention to there health. It's a very sad time for kanye.
There is always going to be a doctor that will perform surgery that others turn down. When a doctor mentions that a preexisting ailment could cause death, you listen. By going to a doctor that told her what she wanted to hear, she is now gone. People, please learn from this tragedy.
May she rest in peace.
God bless that first doctor. Most plastic surgeons only see $$$$$. The first doctor should be commended for looking out for Dr. Donda's best interest.
Her tragic/uneccessary death could have been avoided, had she listened to the first plastic surgeon's advice/warnings. People get caught up in this notion that you need to looks a cetain way , have a flat stomach, perky breasts, the list is endless! She made it in to the spotlight through various ventures with her son and got caught up in the body image madness! She was a good looking 58 year old woman, she didn't have to go there. She needn't have put herself at risk!
Its just sad. Just so sad.

as i sit here looking at her pictures she didn't need that surgery maybe a life coach trainer or something but not surgery she reminds me of my mother and her size real black men love that thickness on older women some countries considers that a sign of wealth,i wish didn't do that the devil works in so many different ways rip ms west...............................................damn black women you are beautiful the way you are!
RIP, Dr. West.
My prayers are with Kanye and his family during this difficult time.
May God Rest her soul.
I had the same procedure done and although I recovered from it, I would never do it again. It was the worst month of my life physically.
It doesn't solve anything, the body may be different but the insecurity still exists.
Sometimes I even think of what I could have done with the money.
But you live and you learn. I'm not saying not to do it. But get the facts and make certain it's what you want. And make sure you are fine with yourself on the inside.
You know, I hate to say this, but vanity is what most likely killed Dr. West (RIP), it had been a known medical fact that Dr. West had heart problems, thus, this is why it makes since why most of the 90210 doctors would not perform the surgery on her, thus, she went to a back street shady azz doctor who decided that we would most likely do it for the dough, and not for the ethics that he should had advised her on other options and or decided not to risk it himself. I SHMDH...This did not need to happen. All the smarts and being a professor, did not heed the ignorance that preceded her unwarranted death, she should had researched this more, before risking her life. The Black Surgeon who did this is the same cat who has a show on the Discovery Health Channel, and showed Lisa Raye's/the Brat's mother getting the same and or similar procedure last year on the channel. SHDH.--That BKChick

No offense, but you're definitely missing the point here.
Sadly, Dr. West has paid the ULTIMATE price for her "decision" to have ELECTIVE surgery under the wrong circumstances - the price being her LIFE. Loving yourself - flaws and all - has no price. That's what others are stating here. Don't let Dr. West's untimely death be in vain.
Learning from others' bad decisions is a sign of maturity.
Don't miss the forest for the trees.
Ya know, not for nothingm I think the way the media and some of you bloggers has painted Dr. West (peace and blassing be upon her soul) is absolutely disgusting. I can't believe that people are so judgmental! Did teh atopsy report come out yet? Was any of you there during her consultations? Who knows what medical facts the second Dr presented to make her comfortable enough to proceed with the sx. already all yall are pointing the finger (vanity, its her own fault, her decesion, etc.) Shut the fuck up and imagine if it was yor fucking mother that died! Have some fucking respect, some humanity! None of yall trifling ass knows the whole story, so fuckin just SHUT UP already. It is extremely devastaing to be so close to the one who brought you into this world, only to have a freak accidnet like this happen. we do not know all the facts... Enough already! And no Anon 1:20pm, I DID NOT miss the point! The point is until all the facts are on the table, there is no conclusion to be drawn (be it medical, liability, fault, etc.)
^^^1:20 I think it is a little bit disingenuous to suggest that her death was the price she paid for her decision to have elective surgery. We all make major decisions in our lives some of which have unintended consequences. But to say that she paid the price with her life smacks of condescension. I am sure she knew the risks going in but she died doing something that she wanted to do...when I go I hope it is also on my terms, just like she made her exit on her terms.
I think to use her death as a touchstone or rallying point for the "love yourself as you are movement" is equally misguided. The one thing we hold most sacred here in America is freedom of self-expression. That means we can shave our heads, pierce our various body parts, tattoo our bodies, have lasik eye surgery or yes, elect to have cosmetic surgery if we so desire. I strongly doubt Ms. West was running around thinking she was gonna get hired to shake her ass in a video or pick up a few hot young bucks at the club after she had her surgery. I am sure she had her reasons, and while you may not know what they are, think they could've been good ones, or agree with her they were her reasons. No one can presume to think for her or know what motivated her. That was a personal choice and a personal decision.
To suggest that all elective surgery is bad is to not understand the psyche of human beings. There are many people who have had elective surgery and gone on to live long meaningful much happier lives, but we only hear about the ones that go bad. I am sure we will all agree that many people undergo cosmetic surgery for the wrong reasons (e.g. to impress others, get movie roles, to fit in with a crowd, etc) but I am sure statistics will bear out that many others do it to lift their own self-image and gain self-esteem and self-confidence. That is why many of these doctors require counseling as part of the pre- and post- Op treatment.
Ms. West's passing is nothing more than an unfortunate turn of events in an otherwise routine surgery performed thousands of times worldwide each year. Were there red flags? I'm sure. But at the end of the day she made a personal choice that she could've lived or died with, and unfortunately it didn't work out in her favor.
Damn Shame! rest in peace Mrs West

Calm down! Instead of irrationally lashing out at people, try to look at this sad situation from a LOGICAL standpoint.
No one here is judging (I hope) Dr. West for her decision to have cosmetic surgery. No one here HAD to be in her business to realize that she made a bad decision that ultimately cost her her life. And no one has to be a member of her family nor her medical team to comment on this situation.
It is what it is.
She sadly made the decision to have surgery that she was warned not to have without proper medical clearance from an internist she was referred to. That statement came from Dr. Andre Aboolian - the cosmetic surgeon who was originally suppose to perform the surgery. The surgeon who did perform the dangerous surgery - Dr. Jan Adams - obviously had much less of a conscience than Dr. Aboolian and was willing to jeopardize her life for the money. He couldn't have done it, however, without Dr. West's consent.
FYI: I have buried (so far) seven family members, including my father, my only brother and my grandfather - who died almost four weeks ago. So I am definitely no stranger to grief. Which is why I feel incredibly sorry for Kanye and his family right now. Seeing him lose his mother reminds me of my own grief & makes me realize that my time with my mother - who's in her 70s - is running out. So I cry for him.
Her bad decision doesn't negate the fact that she died, nor does it mean that others lack compassion for Kanye and his family.
2:31pm...
I appreciate your coments. I guess I have personalized this a bit, being no stanger to grief myself. However, people ARE judging Dr. West, this should be a time of compassion and understanding, not judgment. We cannot conclude that her decesion was "bad". We can now, but she couldn't. We do not know what Dr. Jan told her. What medical evidence he presented to her to comfort her. We just don't know. I tried to not personalize this, but when I hear people talking about she was trying to look "cute" and that she had a low self esteem... these are unfounded, inappropriate and not to mention the wrong time to voice such "fuckery" as my mom would say. regardless of how anyone feels, we should all respect her decesion and reserve all of our malicious comments.

--------------------------
Read my statement again CAREFULLY.
I stated that she had elective surgery UNDER THE WRONG CIRCUMSTANCES. Dr. West's vanity overpowered the warning she received from the original surgeon to get medical clearance from the internist he recommended BEFORE having the surgery. Instinct tells me that she didn't go to the internist because she suspected that she wouldn't receive clearance due to her pre-existing heart condition and possibly other health conditions.
That's why I brought up the issue of loving yourself flaws and all. One important aspect of loving yourself means that you won't jeopardize your life and health for the sake of vanity. And Dr. West knew that she was putting herself in jeopardy by ignoring the first surgeon's warning & going to another cosmetic surgeon for the procedures.
By the way: it is definitely disingenuous to turn this situation into a campaign for cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery overall is very useful - under the right circumstances. It is simply unwise to put one's health and well-being in danger for the sake of appearances. When we love and accept ourselves the way we are, we won't do that to ourselves.
3:06pm...
Be careful with the words you use... we cannot conclude that her "vanity" overpowered anything... along the same vein, we cannot conclude, intelligently, that "vanity" was the motive for the consultation. We do not know. So please, be careful to not judge her. We cannot conclude that this was a "bad" decesion. We cannot conclude that This Dr. jan didn't have an internist on staff to do the clearance writeup. We do not know all the facts... there is more to seeking a PS consultation than vanity... its easy to assume stuff and draw conclusions based on the assuption. The problem is that you make an ASS out of yourself in the process

I understand where your pain is coming from. And I too have seen in the past two days how extremely cruel some people can be - even when it comes to the death of loved ones. The people on this blog are sunshine and hugs compared to the cruelty I've read on other blogs concerning Dr. West's death.
Death humbles you. All of the superficial things that I once thought were so important really don't mean squat anymore - especially when you lose a parent. You learn to appreciate what's truly important in this life. That's why seeing Kanye's mother die under these circumstances breaks my heart. She was an attractive woman and didn't need the cosmetic surgery at all. It definitely wasn't worth losing her life over.

You may want to heed your own advice and not "judge" me - or anyone else - for my comments. Because it's just as easy to want to ignore the truth staring you in the face - either because the truth is too painful to embrace OR it's too much to admit to yourself that you were wrong.

please re-read my post and point out to me where I judged you. I merely quoted what you said in previous posts, (hence the quotation mark) The "truth" is certainly not an issue here because all the "facts" are not available. What seems to be the issue is a bunch of heresay and assupmtions. I stated that yoru assertion that Dr. West's "vanity" was teh underlying factor that caused her death is flawed, unsubstantiated and lacks merit. Did you know her personally? Did she speak with you about her intentions with regards to this surgery? No.... well again, I stick to my original post... let me quote it agin for you

Not a campaign for cosmetic surgery, I am just advocating for choice. She (Ms. West) made a choice and unfortunately she lost. Many others have made the same choice and are all the better for it. She could've ignored all the red flags (just like it seems she did) and the surgery still comes out perfect. It's just the way the ball bounces sometimes.
to go under the knife when you dont have to and doctors warn you not to,,,is VANITY!,,I did not want to say stoopidity
I think it is an ignominy that people are using this as an opportunity to advertise the "love yourself" speech. Who are we to assume Dr. West did not love herself? Everyday we look in the mirror and can find things about us that we do not like, things that seem minor to other people but major to us. If we were all able to afford the surgeries we WANTED in order give us the confidence we THINK it will give us, we would do it, point blank. The heartbreaking truth is this happens a lot and the only reason any of you care is because it happened to a celebrity's mother. Please people, do not walk around acting like since it was her choice, its her fault this happened because it is not. And please do not act like we need to look at this example as something we should NOT do. Get over it and just pay your respects. Leave the judgmental/mundane comments to yourself.
God has a blueprint for all of us and only HE knows when each and every one of us has run out of time!
God Bless Kanye and his family during this awful time. Love is strong and powerful from family and friends.
I was scheduled for a lift and reduction in 2006, was on the table out cold and when I woke up the surgery was NOT done due to safety concerns with my small throat and the breathing tube was too big. I was rescheduled a month later and all went well, THANK GOD! I also made sure my doc was board certified in plastic surgery!
God bless her.
this is sad, from that picture it doesn't look like she even needed that surgery, if anything she could have used some work on her face.
