Kevin Hart Producing Black History Series for the History Channel
Comedian Kevin Hart is producing and starring in a new series on the History Channel focusing on unsung African American heroes...
The series called “Kevin Hart Presents: The Black Man’s Guide to History” begins with Kevin's daughter getting upset after watching the film '12 Years a Slave' and coming to the conclusion that Black history only includes slavery, oppression, struggle and failure.
Through scripted re-enactments Kevin aims to educate his daughter, and the viewing audience, about little known African American historical figures such as Matthew Henson, the first person to reach the North Pole, though he did not receive the credit; Robert Smalls, a former slave who commandeered a Confederate warship and pretended to be the captain to evade capture while freeing himself, his crew and their families ; Mae Jemison, the first African American female astronaut; and Henry “Box” Brown, a slave who mailed himself to a free state in a box.
