So its a bit surprising that Serena is practically the only person standing by Maria this week after her tennis rival admitting failing a drug test for banned substances...
Earlier this week Maria Sharapova held a press conference admitting she tested positive for a banned substance at the Australian Open [click here if you missed that].
Since her announcement Maria has lost over $11 million in endorsements from Nike, Porsche and Tag Heuer.
This week Serena Williams commended Maria for her courage in coming forward,
"I think most people were happy she was upfront and very honest and showed a lot of courage to admit to what she had done and what she had neglected to look at in terms of the list at the end of the year."
"It's just taking responsibility, which she admitted that she was willing to do and ready to do. Just hope for the best for everybody in that situation."
