Jeffre Phillips had proposed to the late King of Pop's big sister at a restaurant several weeks earlier. He and his gal pal were going to make it official at what should have been a grand celebration.
“The diamond was huge. It looked like an ice cube,” says the insider. But it apparently gave La Toya cold feet. She bolted as guests, including her parents Katherine and Joe Jackson, socialite and good friend Kathy Hilton, and other reality TV celebs gaped in amazement, says a source.
“Jeffre was standing on stage with a microphone and asked La Toya to tell everyone the news,” says Globe’s source. “But La Toya got so nervous. She was visibly shaking and couldn’t utter a word. She then quickly handed the microphone to Jeffre and ran off the stage, not to be seen again.
“Jeffre was left standing there alone, looking like a fool. He looked shocked and utterly embarrassed. He told everyone the party was over and they could stay and enjoy the food, but that La Toya was not coming back.
